Christy Green holds degrees from Georgetown University in history and government, Emory University in law and theology, and the University of Chicago in religion and ethics. She has taught at DePaul University, Harvard Divinity School, and the Candler School of Theology. She has been a researcher at the Religion, Culture, and Family Project at the University of Chicago, the Park Ridge Center for the Study of Health, Faith, and Ethics in Chicago, and the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame. She is currently a Senior Fellow and Senior Editor at the Center for the Study of Law and Religion at Emory University, where she is a co-editor of the Journal of Law and Religion and managing editor of the digital journal Canopy Forum. Se also serves as executive editor for the African Consortium for Law and Religion Studies (ACLARS). Christy is a member of LWV of Lafayette and a recipient of LWVLAs 2020 Advocacy Award for work on voting rights and LWVLFTs Thetis Cusimano Award in 2021 for work on redistricting and fair maps. She chairs LWVLAS voting rights committee and is a member of LWV of Lafayette. |
Alicia Chaisson was the Spokesperson for LWV Lafayette from 2017 to 2020, for which she earned the Innovator Award for spearheading the first Spanish language voter guide and increasing visibility through social media, press releases, and speaking at council meetings. She was honored by Lafayette 705 in 2019 as a recipient of the 20 Under 40: Young Leadership Award. She was a candidate for Lafayette City-Parish Council in 2015. Alicia is a talented Theatre teacher for Lafayette Parish. She earned her BFA in drama at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts, graduating in 2006 with honors and merit scholarships. From 2008 to 2011, as an active ensemble member of the New York Neo-Futurists; she wrote, directed, and performed in their signature show, Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind. Since moving to Lafayette in 2011, Alicia has directed, written, consulted, acted, or performed in over 20 productions at the professional, university, and community level. She loves using her theatrical and organizational skills to further the mission of the League. |
Suzanne Gligorevic is a native of Louisiana who recently returned to the area and resettled in Duson. She has extensive experience in nonprofit marketing, strategy, and fundraising. Suzanne holds IOM certification from the United States Chamber of Commerce, specializing in nonprofit management. Suzanne was a member of the League when she lived in Nebraska, and after moving back to LA she is now a member of LWV of Lafayette. ~ |
Dr. Tawanda Boatner has 20 years of professional experience in the criminal justice field. She has served as a Deputy Clerk for the Clerk of Court Office, where she worked under the leadership of Judge Foster Sanders and other judges in Criminal Adult Court. She has also worked under Judge Pamela Taylor Johnson at EBR Juvenile Court, handling cases involving juveniles, child protection, truancy, and family services. Boatner played a pivotal role in developing the 19th Judicial District Court Drug Court and East Baton Rouge Juvenile Drug Court. Her expertise extends to transcription services, having served as a senior minute clerk. Beyond her work in criminal justice, Boatner has embarked on a second career as a first-grade teacher. She brings extensive experience and dedication to creating positive change to our Board and is a Member at Large of the state league. |
Sally O. Donlon was born and raised in downtown Lafayette, Louisiana, but has lived in California, New York, New Jersey, north Louisiana, and New Orleans. She has traveled extensively, and her interests range widely. Sally is an award-winning storyteller with a diverse educational past. As an undergraduate, she studied English and history at the Universities of Louisiana at Lafayette and Monroe; her graduate studies were in sociology, and she holds an MS in Urban Studies & Public Policy from the University of New Orleans. Donlon also holds a PhD in Creative Writing/Non-Fiction, with minors in Linguistics, Literature of the Renaissance, and Literature of the Long 18th Century from UL Lafayette; she is all-butdissertation (ABD) in cognitive linguistics with the erstwhile Institute of Cognitive Science at the same University. Sally is a researcher, writer, editor, organizer, and activist who has visited almost every parish of her state, thanks to her work with organizations such as the Louisiana Board of Regents, the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, and the Louisiana Bar Foundation. She garnered numerous awards during her first career in advertising and public relations, and her second career was spent in higher education administration with the Louisiana Board of Regents and the College of Liberal Arts at UL Lafayette. She is a member of LWV of Lafayette. |
Katie Ferguson, a communications professional, advocate, and community leader, is an active member of LWV Lafayette. As the Event & Industry Relations Manager at SchoolMint, she leads conferences, sponsorships, and outreach initiatives, building strong partnerships in education. She has held leadership roles with Junior League of Lafayette, SoLAcc Foundation, and Lafayette Public Library Foundation. A former 15-year full-time military caregiver, Katie was a 2020-2022 Elizabeth Dole Foundation Fellow, championing resources for caregivers while giving a voice to the unseen. An aortic aneurysm survivor, she is passionate about preventive healthcare and will chair the 2025 Greater Acadiana Go Red for Women® event. She holds a BA in public relations from LSU and an MS in public relations from UL Lafayette. |
Wendy King is an LWV New Orleans Board member and has been active in area environmental issues since the late 1970s. She joined the Sierra Club in 1977, shortly before graduating from Loyola University. Her volunteer work for the Sierra Club has included editing the Chapter and Group newsletters, being treasurer of the New Orleans Group, and currently chairing the New Orleans Groups Waste and Recycling committees, plus being the New Orleans Group Excomms secretary. For LWVNO, she has met with other environment committee members to discuss issues and actions her committee can work on. Kathleen Espinoza has been an instructor of Geography at the University of Louisiana Lafayette since 2007. In addition to a fulltime teaching load, she has served on numerous committees and currently is part of an effort to promote and integrate Geographic Information Systems (GIS) education into undergraduate programs at the university. In the community Kathleen serves as a member of a parish wide effort to support Lafayette Parish Public Schools and is a board member of a foundation that supports the Vermilionville Living History Museum. Kathleen has been a League member for over a decade and has served for several years as a member of the Lafayette Leagues leadership Team. She has also served as LWVLA education chair and led a statewide committee to study charter schools in Louisiana, resulting in a policy adoption by LWVLA in 2019. She has long been inspired by the people she has met and worked with who shine light on important issues and help to create places where public discourse and decision-making can happen effectively. |
Alfred Doucette, Jr. is a past President and Vice President of LWV Lake Charles. He is the chaplain of the Louisiana Black History Hall of Fame and is a past President and Vice President of Toastmaster International 1225. In Lake Charles he has served on the Mayors Commission of Armed Forces and has been member of the Mayors Commission of Disability. Alfred is a life member and a past Commander of Chapter 17, Disabled American Veterans. He earned an AA degree in computer information system specialist and application specialist from Sowela Technical College. Alfred has served two terms on the LWVLA Board of Directors, and he was a LWVLA Member at Large for several years before recently moving to the Metairie/ New Orleans area and joining the LWV of New Orleans. |
Having worked in the public and private sectors, Sylvia Johnson has extensive experience in law, business and social services. Also, she has lived and worked in more than a dozen countries for the U.S. State Department. She consults with small businesses on personnel and property issues. Sylvia has long been an advocate for voter registration and fair access to vote. She serves as a community volunteer with the elderly and the disabled. A current resident of St. Tammany Parish, Sylvia is a native of South Carolina. She holds academic degrees from Duke University and Loyola University of the South. Sylvia is a member of LWV of St Tammany and she worked with VOTE 411 as a Board Member and Voter Services Chair for the State League. |
